With the primary election past, the race for Maryland’s Senate seat and Harford’s Congressional seat are now upon us! The Harford County Democratic Central Committee extends our congratulations to President Joe Biden, Angela Alsobrooks and Blane Miller for their victories in their respective primaries, and look forward supporting their campaigns this summer and fall!
In case there’s any doubt, the Senate race will be highly competitive and will require an all-hands-on-deck effort from Democrats throughout the state. Angela Alsobrooks represents Democratic values - building our communities, ensuring reproductive freedoms, affordable healthcare, addressing climate change, and protecting democracy. She outlines her priorities on her website, which I encourage you to check out. She will make a great Senator.
The stakes are high - regardless of what Larry Hogan says about his commitments to reproductive freedom, his record as governor (and, more recently as a candidate) says otherwise. The Maryland Democratic Party has a great fact check page that will tell you all you need to know about Hogan’s “assurances.”
And of course there’s Rep. Andy Harris. We who’ve lived in the first Congressional district for a while know him well; one of our priorities will be to make sure that the portion of Harford County who formerly were in Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger’s district comes to know his unique qualities as a legislator. In 2022, Harford County had the largest number (65,127) and the largest fraction (34%) of Democratic voters in the 1st Congressional District. As of the most recent Board of Elections registration data, we now number 68,877. When we moblize, we can win. Stay tuned for planned voter registration drives, community events, and campaign activities that you can be a part of!
Edgewood Municipal Incorporation Bill (SB1436) Listening Session
Democrats and others who live in the Edgewood community are invited to attend a listening session held by Dels. Andre and Steve Johnson on their efforts to make it easier for municipalities to incorporate. Harford County currently has three incorporated cities - Bel Air, Havre de Grace, and Aberdeen, each of which with their own municipal governments that allow citizens of those municipalities greater voice in decisions over local planning, zoning, and development issues, as well as other municipal services (for example, trash collection and policing). To learn more about their efforts, and what incorporation would mean for the Edgewood community, I’ve attached the flier that has all of the relevant information you’ll need to attend:
