Note from the Chair, March 2024
A Quick Reflection on President Biden's State of the Union Address
Last night with millions of other Americans, I watched President Biden’s State of the Union address. If you haven’t watched it, I strongly encourage you to watch it. President Biden delivered a fiery and full-throated defense of the values we as Americans hold dear - fairness, equality, freedom, and democracy. He laid out a clear agenda for the upcoming months and for the future of the United States. Of particular note, President Biden committed himself and our Party to:
Invest in all of America to make sure the middle lass has a fair shot, and - borrowing from Governor Moore’s slogan - ensuring that we leave no one behind;
Defend democracy both at home and abroad, advocating for the passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and for funding for armament supplies to Ukraine, a country standing up to Putin’s expansionist authoritarian Russia;
Reforming the tax code so that corporations and the extremely wealthy pay their fair share for the government that secures the benefits of peace and stability for all of us;
Defending the Affordable Care Act and securing the future of Social Security and Medicare;
Pressing for an end to the violence in middle east and ensuring the flow of humantarian aid to innocent civilians who desperately need it.
Above all, President Biden reminded us that the story of America is a story of progress, possibilities, and resilience. It is ours to preserve, protect, and defend - together we will deliver on that promise.
Fellow Democrats, let’s get to work!
