Tomorrow, the voters of Harford County join millions of fellow Americans in the quadrennial ritual of electing a President. We stand tonight on the eve of potentially electing Kamala Harris as the first woman President of the United States. Many of you have campaigned hard, have walked with Kamala, have made phone calls for her, have written postcards to bring out the vote, and many of you will spend Election Day at the polls, either voting, working as election judges, or in a final push to motivate voters to fill in that bubble for Kamala.
We are also standing on the eve of potentially sending Maryland’s first Black Senator to Washington, D.C. While the race remains tight, the polls are looking favorable, and many of you have worked to reinforce the message that putting her opponent in the Senate would put Mitch McConnell and his minions in charge, an outcome that would prevent any kind of vote to codify reproductive rights nationwide.
The Democratic Party of Harford County thanks all of you for your hard work during this election season, no matter how you have contributed. You have done your best. We will celebrate your efforts tomorrow night at the State Theater in Havre de Grace beginning at 8 pm, as we watch returns come in. You’ve earned it, so come join the Party! Bring some food to share. There will be a cash bar.
We will also be holding an after-action-review with the Harford Democratic Club on Wednesday evening at the Holiday Inn Express in Aberdeen. Please join us at 7 pm as we review what went well during this election and consider what we might work to improve for the 2026 election cycle.
Finally, it’s possible, and in fact likely, that we will not know the full outcome of the vote tomorrow night. As we are now keenly aware, it takes time for mail-in ballots to be counted, and many jurisdictions, including Maryland, have a postmark deadline of Nov. 5 - so those ballots may not even have arrived yet! Be patient, calm, and wait for the election workers across the country to what they do best - run free, fair, and transparent elections so that we may enjoy the fruits of liberty that our ancestors worked so hard to give us.
Thanks again for all of your work, and here’s hoping for the outcome we all are looking for!
Yours in Democracy,
Sandy Gibbons
